Beautiful ceramics existed for centuries before the potter's wheel, meaning there are so many creative and unique ways to build pottery and sculpture with clay by hand! Handbuilding is beloved by many ceramists, including a modern wave of unique utilitarian potters and sculptors. Learn skills that are incredibly versatile and useful, and can be used in any part of the ceramic discipline. This class will focus on creating forms by hand in the small to mid-scale size range, letting students explore handbuilding techniques in forms up to 20" in any direction. Processes like advanced pinching and coil building will be covered which can be utilized in the creation of functional pottery or sculpture.
Included in class fee:
- First bag of clay
- All firing fees for work created in ALL classes are included in the class fee (size limit- items must not measure more than 20” in any direction)
- Access to work in studio outside of class meeting time
- Access outside of class time will be restricted to business hours when other classes and programs are not in session in the classroom, and additional monitored times. Your instructor will orient you on how to reserve open studio access on the first day of class.
